Zachry Nuclear Engineering, Inc. seeks an experienced Sr. Designer Civil/Structural and Mechanical to develop complex drawings for plant modification projects.

Responsibilities include creating P&IDs, piping plans, general arrangements, and isometrics in 2D/3D environments, with emphasis on accuracy and adherence to project criteria. A strong background in mechanical and structural drafting is required, along with leadership and team coordination skills.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of an Associate degree or 4 years of equivalent experience in drafting, design, or engineering technology.
  • Must have 9+ years of experience in engineering drafting and strong familiarity with the design of mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation; knowledge of Raster Design and 3D modeling is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to direct drafting personnel.
  • Working knowledge of design codes, standards, budgeting, scheduling, and estimating of Mechanical design activities.
  • Ability to pass security and drug screening and access nuclear plant facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop process and instrumentation drawings (P&IDs), piping plans, general arrangements and isometrics.
  • Check drawings for dimensions, spelling, drafting standards, and completeness per project criteria.
  • Support field walk-downs to obtain measurements and as-built verification.
  • Coordinate with project engineers and other disciplines to resolve design discrepancies.
  • Interface with customer and construction representatives to ensure designs meet standards and integrate multi-discipline work.

Sr. Designer Civil/Structural and Mechanical

Job Description

Will develop structural diagrams such as pipe and conduit support configurations and details, foundation designs, equipment mounting details, general arrangements, fire stops and seals details, process, and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), piping plan and section diagrams, and isometrics.

Responsibilities

Individual will be responsible for the development of process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), piping plan and section diagrams, general arrangements and isometrics and other complex engineering drawings in a 2-D or 3-D environment. Individual will be responsible to check drawings for accuracy including dimensions, spelling, drafting standards and completeness utilizing correct project design criteria. Participation in field walk downs, as necessary, to obtain measurements, verify as-built documentation, and develop field sketches in support of plant modifications and design installations will occasionally be required. Position requires the individual to exercise independent judgment to develop designs with minimal direction from Design Supervisor, Design Lead or Engineering and will concurrently support multiple projects. The individual will communicate with project engineers and other disciplines to develop drawings and resolve design discrepancies. The ability to interface with the customer and their construction representatives to integrate designs to satisfy their standards as well as a proven ability to oversee multi-disciplined design projects is a must for this position.

Qualifications

Education Required: Associates Degree in drafting, design or engineering technology or 4 years of equivalent experience in the design of systems.
Experience Required: Must have 9 years (minimum) of experience in engineering drafting and strong familiarity in the design of mechanical systems in addition to education requirements.
Preferred Experience: Knowledge or use of Raster Design or 3D modeling experience is a plus. Recent plant modification package development and/or field experience on nuclear power plant projects is a plus.
Other Qualifications: All applicants must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to direct drafting personnel on drawing assignments is required. Proficient in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation CAD software packages and Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, etc. is required with competency in software applications for email and databases. Knowledge or use of Raster Design or 3D modeling experience a plus. Demonstrated technical knowledge of design practices, codes and standards applicable to mechanical systems is required. A working knowledge of structural design principles and practices is necessary. Effective time management skills are required. A working knowledge of budgeting, scheduling and estimating of Mechanical design activities is also important. Ability to pass security and drug screening, and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access is required. Recent plant modification package development and/or field experience on nuclear power plant projects as well as familiarity with project management principles and practices are a plus. Successful candidate will be required to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes. Overtime work is required.
