Job summary

BCP Engineers & Consultants is seeking a Drafter (Mechanical or Civil/Structural) for a hybrid role. You can work in Charlotte, NC or Stonington, CT, with 75% remote and 25% onsite engagement.

The assignment lasts 12 months, with a pay rate up to $50/hour non-exempt. Standard 40-hour weeks with possible overtime and travel to client sites.

Qualifications

• High School diploma with drafting coursework or Drafting Certificate.
• Education or experience in engineering drafting is required.
• Able to draw complex mechanical systems from sketches using drafting standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare mechanical isometrics, plans, elevations and sections, piping plans and hanger details.
• Utilize information from engineers and design staff under supervision.
• Prepare bills of materials and respond to client comments and as-built drawings.

Job description

Drafter (Mechanical or Civil/Structural) (Hybrid)

Location: Hybrid (remote 75%, onsite 25%); Candidates can work in Charlotte, NC or Stonington, CT

Estimated Duration of Work Assignment: 12 months (potential to extend)

Pay Rate: Up to $50/hour non-exempt

Hours: Standard work week 40 hrs, project may require 10-20 hours OT as needed

Job Description/Responsibilities

The Drafter will apply manual and computerized drafting methods with a working knowledge of the terms and procedures of the occupation to obtain the desired product. Assignments will be completed utilizing information provided by engineers or design staff under the direction of a supervisor. Individual will be relied upon to apply a working knowledge of mechanical and/or civil/structural design to prepare mechanical isometrics, plans, elevations, and sections, piping plans, details, and pipe hanger supports, and details utilizing engineer sketches and vendor information. Other responsibilities may include preparation of bills of material, resolution of client comments and as-built drawing preparation.

Experience/Educational Requirements

• Required – Qualifications:
• High School diploma with course work in drafting techniques and/or Drafting Certificate is required.
• Education or experience in engineering drafting and familiarity with basic drafting techniques is required.
• Able to accurately draw complex mechanical systems from sketches or specifications using appropriate terms, procedures and drafting standards is required.
• Able to demonstrate the ability to utilize various drafting and CADD techniques for project requirements is required.
• Able to produce complex drawings in a 2-D and 3-D environment is required.
• All applicants must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
• Effective time management skills are required as position may involve working on several projects concurrently.
• Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access is required.
• Successful candidate will be required to understand and comply with company policies, procedures and processes.
• Overtime work will be required at times.
• Travel to client sites with occasional periods of field/office work is required.
• Preferred – Qualifications
• Knowledge of MicroStation and AutoCAD is preferred.
• Experience with Laser Scanning tools, total stations, software, and registration is a plus.

Physical Requirements

Will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry, and move objects safely. Must be able to pass a background and drug screening. Will work mainly in a general office environment but will be required to visit sites. Capable of operating and functioning in a fast-paced work environment. Must possess a vision (corrected or uncorrected) that allows for clear visibility from a distance of 20 inches or less. Ability to perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, to include climbing ladders, working at heights, carrying equipment up to 50 pounds, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous (e.g. high temperatures, high radiation) areas is required.
