Job summary

HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding seeks skilled maintenance professionals to perform repairs across plant facilities and machinery. You will work in carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, sheet metal, and welding, reading blueprints and diagrams as needed.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent with related experience; apprentices or an associate degree in a relevant field are valued. Certification may be required. Shift flexibility is available.

• High school diploma or equivalent with 2 years of related experience.
• Apprentice graduate or associate degree in a relevant discipline with 1 year of related experience.
• May require certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and maintenance in plant or office facilities, or on machines and equipment.
• Work in one or more maintenance trades: carpentry, plumbing, painting, machine and equipment repair, electrical, sheet metal, welding.
• Tests, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs machines; uses blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings, and specifications.

The Role

Performs repairs and maintenance in plant or office facilities, or on machines and equipment. Typically performs work in one or more of the maintenance trades: carpentry, plumbing, painting, machine and equipment repair, electrical, sheet metal fabrication, and welding. Conducts routine, periodic, or special inspections to determine repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns of facilities, machinery, and equipment. Uses hand and power tools. Tests, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs machines and equipment. Uses blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings, and specifications.

Must Have

High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience; Apprentice graduate/ Associate's Degree in relevant discipline and 1 year of related experience. May require certification.
