Job summary

Zipline in South San Francisco seeks a Mechanical Engineer, Production Test to own fixtures and test interfaces for repeatable production testing of aircraft, docks, pods, and subassembly hardware.

You will design how products are located, loaded, supported, and connected to production testers and calibration stations, integrating sensors, actuators, instrumentation, and safety interfaces with electrical and software partners.

Qualifications

• 2+ years building production test systems and automated test equipment for electro‑mechanical products.
• BS in Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
• Hands-on shop-floor experience and ownership of tester programs.
• Strong test automation: Python; LabVIEW, TestStand; integrating DAQ, scopes, DMMs.

Responsibilities

• Design production test fixture mechanics for repeatable locating, loading, handling, and connection.
• Integrate instrumentation, sensors, actuators, harnessing, and safety interlocks with cross‑functional teams.
• Own mechanical design, delivery, and sustainment for production testers and calibration stations.
• Define tester acceptance criteria and validate contributions to test coverage and cycle time.
• Collaborate with electrical/software engineers to integrate testers and maintain throughput targets.
• Partner on test automation and data pipelines to enable high‑throughput flows and MES/MFG integration.
• Drive measurable outcomes: improve first‑pass yield, reduce false‑fail rate, and increase tester uptime.
• Troubleshoot escalations on the floor and coordinate with vendors for launches and qualifications.
• Produce and maintain test documentation and change-control artifacts.
