Job summary

Zipline in South San Francisco is seeking a Production Equipment & Tooling Engineer to own the design and deployment of fixtures, workstations, tooling, and end-of-line test equipment for aircraft assembly and battery integration.

Based on your experience, you will shape throughput, FPY, and uptime, collaborate with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain, and occasionally travel to vendor or field sites. This role is site-based with on‑site requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong GD&T, tolerance analysis and mechanism design skills.
• Hands-on on-site experience with factory tooling and automation.

Responsibilities

• Own equipment requirements, acceptance criteria, and handoff through ramp.
• Lead end-to-end delivery of production equipment for aircraft subsystems.
• Improve tooling availability, reduce assembly cycle time, and FPY.
• Design alignment fixtures, torque tooling, ergonomic stations, and test rigs.
• Perform debugging and rapid root-cause analysis during launches.
• Coordinate cross-functional tooling scope with Design, Manufacturing, QA, and Supply Chain.
• Manage vendor relationships, RFQs, and acceptance testing.
