Job summary

The Common Market in Frederick, MD seeks a customer-focused retail associate to join our team. You will assist shoppers, maintain inventory, process orders, and ensure displays are clean, accurate, and compliant with safety standards.

The role requires at least a high school diploma and 1+ year in retail, plus familiarity with natural foods. You’ll adapt to changing needs, work varied shifts, and help uphold our cooperative values and sanitation procedures.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides attentive, prompt, and friendly service to all internal and external customers.
• Builds and maintains customer satisfaction with the products and services offered by the co-op.
• Maintains knowledge of products, sales, and promotions.
• Actively engages with customers and receives orders promptly and accurately.
• Ensures inventory is stored, stocked, and rotated according to standard procedures.
• Handles all product in a safe, sanitary, and conscientious manner.
• Completes shrink log as needed.
• Ensures displays, signage, and tags are accurate.
• Installs new product displays as needed.
• Participates in maintaining cleanliness and order.
• Adheres to Health Department regulations and department sanitation and safety procedures.
• Adheres to all workplace safety and security policies.
• Participates in meetings and trainings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

PREREQUISITES

• High School Diploma or equivalent education or experience.
• A minimum of one (1) year's experience in a retail environment.
• A minimum of one (1) year's experience and familiarity with natural foods and products.

ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Flexibility to work any shift, including mornings, middays, evenings, weekends.
• Must wear closed-toe, skid-resistant shoes; a head covering (hat, bandanna, etc.); butcher's jacket; and long pants.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures (approximately 40°F - 75°F).
• Ability to stand for long periods at a time.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, twist, and climb.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
• Reliable access to transportation.
