Job summary

Hy-Vee, Inc. is seeking a Meat Clerk in the Hampton, IA area to provide friendly customer service in the Meat/Seafood Department. Responsibilities include wrapping, trimming, stocking cases, and receiving merchandise, while maintaining sanitation and organization.

You’ll work as part of a team, greet customers, assist with product locating, price labeling, and ensuring freshness. Prior experience is not required; food safety training is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; food safety training completed.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
• Ability to follow written or verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
• Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee’s designated department or elsewhere in the store.
• Makes an effort to learn customers’ names and to address them by name whenever possible.
• Assists customers by escorting them to the products they’re looking for, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, passing along customer suggestions or requests, and performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service including taking customer orders.
• Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Wraps, weighs, and labels product.
• Reviews the status and appearance of the food for freshness, then stocks cases or rotates product.
• Finishes trims on steaks, roasts, and chops; prepares seafood for display and trays, slices, tenderizes, and grinds as needed.
• Maintains sanitation and keeps the work area clean and neat.
• Replenishes and organizes coolers; reports out-of-stock products.
• Removes trash timely and adheres to dress and hygiene guidelines.
• Reports to work as scheduled.
