Job summary

Kroger in Portland, OR is hiring a Meat Clerk to prepare and display meat items, assist customers, and uphold our core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety.

You will handle labeling, rotation, cleaning, and operate meat department equipment. Weekend/holiday availability, strong communication, teamwork, and compliance with food safety laws are required.

Qualifications

• Will work weekends and holidays as needed.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Able to read shelf tags, signs and product labels.
• Operate power tools and meat department equipment (wrapper, slicer, grinder, etc.).
• Must work safely with cleaning solutions.
• Team player in a fast-paced environment.
• Maintain a positive, helpful demeanor with customers and associates.
• Meat work experience or similar food prep experience preferred.
• Reliable and trustworthy with good integrity.
• Knowledge of applicable laws and OSHA/food handling regulations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and display merchandise neatly and efficiently.
• Check product quality, rotate stock, and ensure freshness.
• Keep all areas clean, organized, and safe.
• Unload trucks and prepare merchandise for sale.
• Assist customers and provide friendly service.
• Sanitize equipment per policies and Health Dept guidelines.
• Communicate effectively with customers and associates.
• Greet customers and help them find products.
• Follow all company, state and federal rules and dress code.
