• To oversee and manage the daily operations of the meat department, ensuring high-quality products, excellent customer service, and profitability. This includes managing inventory, pricing, merchandising, staff training and development, and maintaining sanitation standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise all meat department personnel, including scheduling, training, performance evaluations, and addressing employee concerns.
• Ensure the quality and freshness of all meat products by implementing and enforcing proper handling, storage, and rotation procedures.
• Control inventory levels to minimize waste and maximize profitability, conducting regular inventory checks and ordering products as needed.
• Maintain accurate pricing and signage for all meat products, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations.
• Create attractive and effective meat displays to maximize sales and appeal to customers, utilizing merchandising techniques to showcase products.
• Provide exceptional customer service by addressing customer inquiries, resolving complaints, and offering product recommendations.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, complying with all food safety and sanitation regulations and company standards.
• Monitor and control department expenses, striving to meet or exceed budget goals and identify cost‑saving opportunities.
• Stay current on industry trends and best practices, attending relevant training and workshops as needed.
• Collaborate with other store departments to ensure smooth operations and a positive customer experience.
• Implement and enforce company policies and procedures within the meat department.
• Perform other duties as assigned by store management.

Qualifications

Required Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Experience

• 18 years or older
• Minimum of 3 years experience in meat cutting and processing
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a supervisory or management role within a meat department
• Experience with inventory management, ordering, and stocking
• Experience with meat department sanitation and safety procedures
• Experience with customer service and sales

Required Skills and Abilities

• Strong knowledge of different cuts of meat, meat preparation techniques, and meat storage procedures
• Ability to operate and maintain meat cutting equipment (e.g., band saws, grinders, slicers)
• Ability to lead, train, and motivate a team of meat cutters and other department personnel
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
• Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs)
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time
