Whole Foods Market is seeking a Meat Department Leader to oversee daily operations, profitability, sourcing, and merchandising. You will hire, develop, and coach Team Members while ensuring regulatory compliance and adherence to health standards.

The role emphasizes teamwork, vendor relationships, and exceptional customer service. The position requires 24+ months retail experience with 12+ months in a leadership role, plus expertise in meat products and safety.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of competitors and industry trends.
• Expertise in products, buying, pricing, merchandising, and inventory management.
• Food safety certification and willingness to obtain within 6 months.
• Certified Meat Journeyman or equivalent training.
• Strong interpersonal and customer relations skills.
• Ability to mentor and coach teammates.
• Extensive product knowledge across meat categories.
• Knowledge of regulatory and safety policies and procedures.
• Proficient with email, Microsoft Office, and operations apps.

Responsibilities

• Hold ATLs, supervisors and Team Members accountable for outstanding customer service.
• Make hiring and separation decisions with Store Leadership.
• Monitor and achieve sales, purchasing, and labor targets.
• Project annual sales and expenses and prepare the operating budget.
• Manage ordering and inventory to contribute to profit margin.
• Foster collaborative relationships with leadership across departments.
• Maintain positive vendor relationships.
• Stay informed on competitors and industry trends.
• Set and achieve high standards of retail execution.
• Promote a positive, high-performance work environment.
• Monitor customer flows and adjust staffing to delight customers.
• Recruit, train and coach Team Members to sustain a strong team.
• Communicate and uphold Team Member safety standards.
• Provide thorough performance evaluations and feedback.
• Model the WFM vision and goals.
