Job summary

Homeland Stores in Cherokee, OK is seeking an Experienced Part Time Meat Cutter. You will identify cuts, breakdown meat, wrap products, and ensure accurate pricing and presentation.

Responsibilities

• Identify cuts of meat, breakdown, trim, weigh, wrap, and package products per standards.
• Greet customers, answer questions/requests, handle complaints, and explain store policies.
• Review daily perishable board and follow intercom guidelines for announcements.
• Prepare/organize cooler, backroom, and preparation area, verify invoices, check quality and weights.
• Move cases and products to shelves and display areas; rotate stock and check dates.
• Operate or assist with equipment and ensure safety, cleanliness, and proper use of tools.

Primary Responsibilities

• To identify the various cuts of meat, to breakdown cut and trim all meat products as directed by company standards, weigh, wrap/package products in a clean, neat and attractive package.
• To greet customers, respond to customer questions/requests/complaints and explain store policies in a courteous manner, as well as to write down customers’ special orders/requests
• To review the perishable department Communication Board daily and follow the guidelines for intercom announcements.
• To prepare/organize the cooler/freezer/backroom/preparation area for receipt of merchandise, verify the merchandise against the invoice, inspect the delivery for quality/shortages/damage, sort cases for stocking or product preparation and code-date all case items in the cooler/freezer.
• To load stocking carts/pallets, transport cases/product to sales floor/ cooler/freezer/product preparation area either on stocking carts or pallets, match the case strip to the shelf/case tag/stock, open cases, place merchandise in the designated cooler/freezer/case/shelf/display position/area, check the product code/freshness date and "face/front"/rotate each product on display.
• To understand the operations, safety requirements and restraints of a baler, case cutter, pallet jack, pricing gun, grinder, tenderizer, saw, knife, slicer, scales, wrapper, (must be 18 years or older to operate the pallet jack, baler, grinder, tenderizer, saw and slicer).

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Journeyman Meat Cutter reports directly to the Meat Department Manager.

Qualifications

• Basic Mathematics (Add, subtract, multiply, divide)
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Prior meat cutting experience

Specific tasks

• Lift, twist, move and carry a maximum of 75 lbs., from the floor to shelving, or overhead racks in the store and cooler/freezer, and up to 10 yards.
• Maintain active signage and pricing in all departmental areas
• Care for signs, banners, and debris from daily operations
• Accurately and efficiently handle cash, debit/credit, EBT/WIC, coupons, and vouchers
• Respond to customers, coworkers, and vendor questions and responses promptly and politely
• Proper usage of store phone and intercom systems
• To supervise/perform the checking of case and cooler temperatures 4 times daily utilizing the time keeping system to record each check.
• To clean and sanitize department floors, mirror, case, racks, tables, cooler, freezer, department equipment, product-preparation area, and shelves. Safely use cleaning equipment and chemicals.
• Read production-equipment gauges/controls, case labels/strips, equipment and chemical-warning labels, signs, tags, shelf signs, code dates, invoices, temperature gauges, reports, numbers and aisle markers.

Work Environment Note

Inside work with transitions of heat/cold/humidity/dust from backdoor/compressors/cooler/freezer/preparation area.
