Job Description

Job Title: Meat Clerk

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function

Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service. Wraps, trims, stocks cases, and receives merchandise in the Meat and/or Seafood Department.

Reporting Relations

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Operations, Perishables, Health Wellness & Home, Meat Department Manager, Assistant Meat Department Manager, Seafood Department Manager, Assistant Seafood Department Manager, Service Managers.

Positions that report to this role: Under certain circumstances, part-time stockers may receive direction from this position.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provides friendly customer service, showing care, concern, and patience in all interactions.
  2. Greets customers with a smile and makes efforts to learn and address them by name.
  3. Assists customers by escorting, securing, loading/unloading heavy items, and passing along suggestions or requests.
  4. Answers calls promptly and provides helpful service, including taking orders.
  5. Works as a team with co-workers to ensure satisfaction and a pleasant environment.
  6. Wraps, weighs, labels products, and ensures freshness and proper stock rotation.
  7. Prepares seafood items and organizes displays.
  8. Maintains sanitation and cleanliness standards.
  9. Replenishes coolers and reports out-of-stock items.
  10. Performs trimming, slicing, tenderizing, and grinding of products.
  11. Removes trash timely and maintains personal hygiene and dress standards.
  12. Adheres to company policies and reports to work as scheduled.
Secondary Duties
  • Prepares signage, orders merchandise, and assists in other store areas as needed.
  • Performs other related duties and projects.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and deal with concrete variables.
  • Basic math skills, including addition and subtraction.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions and request supplies.
Education and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent, food safety training, and up to six months of related experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to exert up to 85 pounds occasionally, 40 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
  • Visual requirements include various distances, color vision, and depth perception.
  • Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions

Exposed to cool, damp environments, noise, cleaning solvents, and electrical hazards in a fast-paced setting.

Equipment Used

Knives, grinders, tenderizer, slicer, pallet jack, tumbler, wrapping system, and rotisserie.

Contacts

Daily interaction with customers and vendors/suppliers.

Compensation

Starting hourly wage: $13.50 to $16.80, depending on experience.
