Job summary

Hen House is seeking a reliable Meat Clerk to support daily meat department operations, ensuring fresh, well-stocked, and properly presented products while helping guests select the right cuts and solutions for their needs.

You will work in a fast-paced environment, maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and guest service, with opportunities to develop product knowledge and sales skills within the Balls Food Stores family.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent work experience.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Experience in grocery, retail, food service, or meat/seafood departments (preferred).
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards (preferred).
• Experience with meat cutting, knife handling, or meat/seafood preparation (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, helpful, and respectful guest service at all times to ensure a positive shopping experience.
• Package and label meat products accurately per weight, pricing, and regulatory guidelines.
• Assist guests with product selection, custom cuts, and cooking recommendations.
• Stock, rotate, and face products using FIFO to maintain freshness and reduce waste.
• Monitor product dates, storage conditions, and temperature logs to maintain quality.
• Maintain clean, organized service cases and displays.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and temperature control of all meat products.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and personal hygiene standards.
• Operate scales, wrappers, scanners, and basic cutting tools safely and accurately.
• Develop knowledge of meat products, pricing, and promotions to drive sales.
• Monitor inventory levels and report low or damaged items to leadership.
• Communicate clearly with teammates, leadership, and vendors to support operations.
• Collaborate across departments to support store performance and guest satisfaction.
• Adhere to company policies including attendance, conduct, and dress code.
• Remain productive during slower periods by cleaning, organizing, restocking, or supporting other departments.
• Other duties as assigned.
