Job Description: Meat & Seafood Clerk

The Meat & Seafood Clerk is responsible for maintaining all store meat cases, ensuring they are stocked, clean, and organized during business hours. They assist customers, maintain a friendly demeanor, and follow procedural guidelines set by the Meat Department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Ensure cleanliness of meat and seafood cases, storage, and work areas, including cleaning shelves, removing spills, and debris.
2. Stock, face, fill, and organize meat and seafood products according to schematics, ensuring accurate tagging and pricing.
3. Monitor product rotation, paying attention to expiration dates.
4. Assist customers with inquiries, product selections, and purchases, promoting cross-selling.
5. Receive, inspect, and log shipments for accuracy, temperature, and quality.
6. Maintain promotional materials and signage at the point of purchase.
7. Operate equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, and other tools safely and correctly.
8. Ensure proper temperatures are maintained during all stages of meat and seafood production.
9. Prepare meat and seafood products using appropriate ingredients and cooking times.
10. Organize and rotate products in coolers and freezers.
11. Accurately weigh, label, package, and date products following safety standards.
12. Follow safety practices, including the use of protective equipment like mesh gloves.
13. Participate in inventory preparation and back stock management.
14. Maintain high product knowledge and presentation standards.
15. Regularly walk the department to ensure cleanliness and organization.
16. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred 1-2 years of grocery retail experience, especially in Meat departments.
• Experience in natural foods industry is a plus.
