Job Title: Meat Clerk

Department: Meat

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function

Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service. Wraps, trims, stocks cases, and receives merchandise in the Meat and/or Seafood Department.

Reporting Relations

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Operations, Perishables, Health Wellness, Home, Meat Department Manager, Assistant Meat Department Manager, Seafood Department Manager, Assistant Seafood Department Manager, Service Managers.

Positions that Report to you: Under certain circumstances, part-time stockers could receive direction from this position.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all interactions.
  • Greets customers warmly and makes an effort to learn and use their names.
  • Assists customers by escorting, securing products, loading/unloading, noting suggestions, and enhancing shopping experience.
  • Answers phone calls promptly, providing helpful service and taking orders.
  • Works with team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Wraps, weighs, labels products, and checks for freshness.
  • Prepares seafood and other meat products for display and sale.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of work area and coolers.
  • Reports out-of-stock products and maintains hygiene and dress standards.
  • Follows company policies and reports to work as scheduled.
Secondary Duties
  • Prepares signage, orders merchandise, assists in other store areas, and performs related duties.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and perform basic math.
Education and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent, food safety training, and up to 6 months of related experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to exert up to 85 pounds occasionally, 40 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
  • Visual acuity from close to distance, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision required.
  • Physical activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions

Exposed to cool, damp environments, noise, cleaning solvents, and electrical hazards in a fast-paced setting.

Equipment Used

Knives, grinders, tenderizer, slicer, pallet jack, tumbler, wrapping system, rotisserie, etc.

Contacts

Daily interaction with customers and vendors/suppliers.
