Job summary

Distro is seeking a senior software engineer to design, develop, and maintain complex web applications. You will work on modern JavaScript/TypeScript stacks with Node.js, Express, and cloud services, driving code quality, documentation, and scalable architectures.

You will participate in code reviews, mentoring, and ensuring best practices across the full software lifecycle in an onsite US-based team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of JavaScript/TypeScript expertise.
• Experience building complex SPA using AngularJS/React/Vue.
• Strong knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SCSS.
• Experience with RESTful services and microservices (Node.js/Express).
• Proficient in Node.js development.
• Cloud experience with AWS or Azure is a plus.
• Familiar with AI-assisted coding tools like Copilot/Claude.
• Experience with Agile, CI, TDD and Git workflows.
• Docker experience on Linux or macOS.
• NoSQL or PICK database experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex application code development, maintenance and debugging.
• Perform unit tests on assigned work.
• Prepare technical documentation spanning multiple lifecycle phases.
• Lead code reviews.
• Develop and adhere to engineering standards across the lifecycle.
• Lead design efforts addressing security, performance, data integrity and scalability.
• Review key requirements to ensure a cohesive product.
• Collaborate with QA to ensure test strategy covers all project aspects.

Job description

Technical Skills:

• 5+ years of JavaScript/Typescript experience at an expert-level proficiency is a must
• Experience building and maintaining complex, single-page web-apps, using modern JavaScript frameworks & libraries (AngularJS, React and Vue.js)
• In-depth knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SCSS and related technologies.
• Experience with RESTful web services and/or microservices (especially Node.js, Express)
• Strong in NodeJS development
• Cloud experience (AWS, azure) is a plus
• Practical experience using AI‑assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to accelerate development and improve engineering workflows.
• Working with agile development methodologies, continuous integration, test-driven development and Git version control.
• Experience with Docker under Linux or OSX
• Experience with NoSQL or multi-value (PICK) database

Desired Experience and Skills:

• Bachelors/Advanced degree (or experience equivalent) with 10 + years of software Industry experience in product design, architecture, or support experience.
• Experience with legacy modernization is a big plus
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Desire to mentor developers on the team
• Strong willingness to learn new technologies, dive into challenges and take direction
• Must exhibit a positive approach and the ability to work efficiently as a individual contributor
• Must have the ability to work well with the team, efficiently distribute expertise, etc.
• HCM domain knowledge is a plus
