Job description

Job Description

This is a full-time position with a 35-hour workweek and a flexible/hybrid schedule.

Hope For Youth has an exciting and rare Therapist position opening in its PINS Diversion program. The Nassau County PINS (Person In Need of Supervision) Diversion program is designed to divert at-risk youth from PINS petitions that require court involvement. PINS Diversion services families with children up to 18 years old in Nassau County.

Families applying for diversion services face issues including, but not limited to, school truancy, gang involvement, runaway behaviors, mental health, and substance abuse issues.

The program provides short-term, intensive, in-home, family-centered interventions aimed at preventing out-of-home placements, teaching problem-solving skills, and linking families to community-based care systems.

A unique component of the diversion program is the incorporation of Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT), an evidence-based program tailored to youth with mental health and substance abuse challenges. Paid training in MDFT will be provided to the hired Therapist during normal work hours at no cost.

To be a successful MDFT Therapist in HFY's PINS Diversion Program, you must always be willing, ready, and able to:

  • Operate within the Agency's policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual.
  • Support clients and families by providing the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to maintain children in their homes.
  • Achieve successful outcomes according to NYS, County, and HFY policies and procedures.
  • Perform other necessary work to meet client, program, and regulatory needs.

Typical duties of MDFT Therapists include:

  • Developing comprehensive clinical treatment plans including counseling, mental health, and substance abuse services for youth with high behavioral and trauma acuity, as determined by the CANS-NY assessment.
  • Providing individual clinical services to up to 12 clients at a time, with the program servicing up to 50 cases annually.
  • Participating in a 3- to 6-month training program, with sessions ranging from 30 to 60 over 6 months, with clients seen 1 to 4 times weekly as needed.
  • Administering interventions in home, community, or office settings.
  • Conducting collateral contacts in schools or community locations.
  • Preparing psychosocial assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and documentation for interdisciplinary teams.
  • Physical requirements include reading/writing reports, walking, standing, sitting, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, reaching overhead, repetitive movements, and reliable vehicle access for work, including driving own vehicle, with possible vehicle inspection during interview.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Licensed Therapist (LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, LMFT)
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Experience preferred, but Hope For Youth will provide MDFT training
  • Valid NYS Driver's License in good standing

Additional abilities include:

  • Excellent communication and computer skills
  • Flexible schedule
  • Participation in team and case review meetings
  • Collaborative work with referral sources and agencies
  • Knowledge of child-serving systems and experience with adolescents

Compensation and benefits:

Salary is based on a 35-hour workweek, with a flexible schedule involving remote, office, and field work. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, retirement plans, paid time off, training, tuition assistance, and more. Details are provided in the full description.

Please include your resume, cover letter, and salary requirements. Only candidates selected for interviews will be contacted.
