Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced professional designation preferred (MBA/CFA/CPA).
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in commercial or investment banking or financial institutions coverage.
  • Proven leadership of senior banking professionals across multiple markets.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the North American FIG strategy aligned with long-term objectives.
  • Lead and mentor a team of senior bankers, relationship managers, and credit professionals.
  • Build executive-level relationships with CEOs, CFOs, boards and other C-suite leaders.
  • Originate and structure complex financing solutions including syndicated lending and capital markets.
  • Drive new business development while expanding client relationships within FIG.
  • Collaborate with Capital Markets, Treasury, Investment Banking, and Risk teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Evaluate market trends and regulatory developments to identify growth opportunities.
  • Maintain revenue generation, portfolio quality, and overall business performance.
  • Ensure sound underwriting and portfolio monitoring with strong risk management.
  • Guide negotiations on lending structures, M&A, recapitalizations, and strategic financings.
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences and investor meetings.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and client service.

Lead the Future of Financial Institutions Banking

An industry-leading financial institution is seeking an accomplished Managing Director, Head of Financial Institutions Group (FIG), North America to drive the strategic vision, growth, and execution of one of the firm's most critical business lines. This executive leadership role is designed for a seasoned banking professional with a proven history of building trusted relationships with financial institutions, leading high-performing teams, and delivering exceptional revenue growth across a sophisticated portfolio.

As the Head of FIG, you will serve as a strategic advisor to banks, credit unions, insurance companies, asset managers, fintech organizations, specialty finance companies, and other financial institutions throughout North America. You will shape market strategy, originate complex transactions, oversee portfolio performance, and partner with executive leadership to position the organization for sustained success in an evolving financial landscape.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop and execute the North American Financial Institutions Group strategy aligned with the organization's long-term business objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of senior bankers, relationship managers, product specialists, and credit professionals across multiple markets.
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with CEOs, CFOs, Boards of Directors, and other C-suite leaders within financial institutions.
  • Originate and structure complex financing solutions including syndicated lending, acquisition financing, treasury management, capital markets, liquidity solutions, and strategic advisory engagements.
  • Drive new business development initiatives while expanding existing client relationships across the FIG portfolio.
  • Collaborate closely with Capital Markets, Treasury Services, Investment Banking, Credit Risk, Asset Management, and Executive Leadership teams to deliver integrated financial solutions.
  • Evaluate market trends, competitive dynamics, regulatory developments, and emerging opportunities to identify strategic growth initiatives.
  • Maintain responsibility for revenue generation, profitability, portfolio quality, and overall business performance.
  • Ensure sound credit practices through thoughtful underwriting, portfolio monitoring, and risk management oversight.
  • Guide negotiations involving sophisticated lending structures, mergers and acquisitions, recapitalizations, and strategic financing transactions.
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, banking associations, investor meetings, and executive forums.
  • Foster a culture centered on collaboration, accountability, innovation, and exceptional client service.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline required.
  • MBA, CFA, CPA, or other advanced professional designation strongly preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience within commercial banking, corporate banking, investment banking, or financial institutions coverage.
  • Extensive experience serving financial institution clients with demonstrated expertise across lending, treasury, capital markets, and advisory services.
  • Proven leadership experience managing senior banking professionals across multiple geographic markets.
  • Exceptional understanding of banking regulations, capital structures, balance sheet management, liquidity, and enterprise risk management.
  • Strong credit analysis and underwriting expertise involving complex commercial and institutional transactions.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate significant revenue while maintaining disciplined portfolio management.
  • Executive presence with outstanding communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to balance long-term vision alongside tactical execution.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and sound business judgment in highly complex financial environments.
