Job description

A Capability Engineer, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) position is currently available at Belcan working REMOTELY from anywhere in the United States. This is a full-time direct position with benefits.

The successful candidate will support the development and maturation of Belcan's MBSE capabilities by creating reusable methods, templates, accelerators, training materials, advisory frameworks, and implementation guidance that improve delivery consistency and customer outcomes.

This role works closely with Chief Engineers, Principal Engineers, practice leaders, and customer-facing teams to capture lessons learned, standardize best practices, and transform project experience into scalable organizational capabilities. While collaborating broadly across the organization, the Capability Engineer receives primary direction from the Chief Engineer and executes capability development priorities aligned with the MBSE practice roadmap.

The Capability Engineer is expected to remain connected to customer delivery through limited billable work, ensuring developed capabilities remain practical, relevant, and informed by real-world implementation experience. Approximately 75% of the role is focused on capability development and internal innovation, while approximately 25% supports customer-facing delivery activities.

The ideal candidate combines strong systems engineering expertise with process development, knowledge management, and continuous improvement skills, along with a passion for translating technical knowledge into repeatable business value.

Job Duties:

Capability Development & Standardization

• Develop and maintain reusable methods, templates, playbooks, implementation guides, and advisory frameworks supporting MBSE initiatives.
• Execute capability development priorities established by the Chief Engineer.
• Convert project lessons learned into repeatable delivery approaches and organizational best practices.
• Develop maturity assessments, implementation roadmaps, architecture frameworks, customer diagnostics, and delivery accelerators.
• Support creation and maintenance of capability roadmaps and continuous improvement plans.
• Help establish common approaches that improve consistency across customer engagements.

Intellectual Property & Knowledge Management

• Transform customer experience, project outcomes, and technical innovation into reusable intellectual property.
• Create assets that improve solution delivery, customer value realization, and organizational scalability.
• Maintain repositories of reusable content, templates, technical assets, and delivery accelerators.
• Support development of white papers, technical guidance documents, case studies, and training materials.
• Promote knowledge sharing across the broader MBSE community and Model-Based Enterprise organization.

Technical Solution Support

• Partner with Chief Engineers and Principal Engineers to operationalize technical strategies and solution patterns.
• Support development of reference implementations, demonstrations, and capability pilots.
• Assist project teams in applying established methods, standards, frameworks, and best practices.
• Support continuous improvement of solution delivery methodologies.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, standards, and industry practices for incorporation into Belcan capabilities.

Customer Delivery & Application

• Support customer programs through targeted delivery assignments representing approximately 25% of overall workload.
• Apply developed methodologies and accelerators within customer engagements to validate effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities.
• Capture implementation lessons learned and feed them back into capability development activities.
• Support customer workshops, assessments, and advisory engagements.
• Serve as a champion for adoption of Belcan-developed methods and frameworks.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Collaborate with MBSE, MBDMI, and Platform Integration teams to identify opportunities for standardization and reuse.
• Support alignment of methodologies across Belcan's broader Model-Based Enterprise organization.
• Facilitate workshops and working sessions focused on capability development, process improvement, and organizational maturity.
• Identify capability gaps and recommend improvements aligned with strategic priorities.

Industry Leadership & Innovation

• Monitor industry trends, standards, and best practices related to MBSE, Digital Engineering, Digital Thread, systems architecture, requirements management, verification, validation, and lifecycle engineering.
• Support development of Belcan thought leadership materials and technical content.
• Contribute to innovation initiatives, research efforts, and strategic capability investments.
• Help position Belcan as a leader in MBSE methodologies, digital engineering transformation, and advisory services.

Required Qualifications:

• Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is REQUIRED.
• Bachelor's Degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting Model-Based Systems Engineering, systems engineering, digital engineering, architecture development, requirements management, or related disciplines.
• Experience with Cameo Systems Modeler, MagicDraw, Cameo Enterprise Architecture, IBM DOORS Next, Jama, Polarion, or similar MBSE platforms.
• Familiarity with SysML and SysML v2 methodologies.
• Experience developing engineering methods, standards, frameworks, training materials, or reusable technical assets.
• Strong understanding of MBSE methodologies, systems lifecycle processes, and Digital Engineering concepts.
• Experience with requirements development, systems architecture, verification, validation, and model-based analysis activities.
• Exceptional technical writing, facilitation, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate across technical disciplines and organizational boundaries.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

• Experience supporting Digital Engineering and Digital Thread initiatives.
• Experience developing consulting methodologies, advisory frameworks, implementation roadmaps, or capability accelerators.
• Understanding of DoD Digital Engineering Strategy and industry MBSE best practices.
• Experience creating reusable intellectual property and technical training content.
• INCOSE ASEP, CSEP, or ESEP certification preferred.
• Experience supporting aerospace, defense, industrial, or advanced manufacturing organizations.

Compensation:

We provide a competitive pay and benefits package. This position is offering a salary range of $130,000-$160,000 Belcan considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to education, experience, geographic location, and discipline.
