Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks personnel for the SSR Unit with a Special Incentive program. The role involves direct wing supervision, regular inspections, and incident reporting within a maximum-security setting at Kirkland CI. Minimum qualifications include 12 months in corrections or related fields, U.S.

citizenship, and a valid license. The base pay ranges from $58,575 to $59,618 with an additional $3,000 incentive.

Qualifications

• Must have 12 months' experience in corrections, security, military or police work.
• Tattoos must not be offensive and/or gang related or visibly located on face or head.
• Must pass a medical assessment.
• Must complete the Correctional Officer Basic Certification Course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision of all wing activities and functions.
• Conduct security, safety and health inspections at least every 30 minutes when on the wing.
• Record security checks in MSU Logbook and Zebra Scanners.
• Prepare and submit written reports of all events.
• Maintain surveillance and search for contraband.
• Ensure highest standard of cleanliness and sanitation at all times.
• Ensure proper use of protective gear when on the wing.
• Be knowledgeable of emergency evacuation policies and procedures.
• Conduct inventory of equipment and keys.
• Maintain and operate security devices such as gates, doors, weapons, and mechanical devices.
• Ensure inmates are strip-searched and restrained to highest level of security prior to entering/exiting the cell.
• Ensure two Officers are present whenever a cell door is open.
• Report inmate complaints for appropriate action.
