South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks candidates for positions at Gilliam Psychiatric Hospital as part of the Close-Institution security team. Six positions are available across multiple shifts to support inmate safety and facility operations. Incentives include a $3,000 bonus for assignment to the Close-Security Unit and base pay adjustments based on service and incentives.

Qualifications require corrections/security/military/police background, U.S. citizenship, and a valid license.

Qualificações

• Must have 12 months' experience in corrections, security, military or police work.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• 18 years of age or older.
• High school graduate or GED.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Tattoos: Must not be offensive and/or gang related or visibly located on the face or head. Tattoos on the neck will be evaluated on a case‑by‑case basis.
• Must pass a medical assessment administered by SCDC.
• Must successfully complete the Correctional Officer Basic Certification Course within six (6) months of placement into the position.
• Must be certified.

Responsabilidades

• Inspect the exercise yard for contraband and ensure fences, braces, and tie downs are secured before inmate recreation.
• Provide direct supervision of all wing activities and functions.
• Conduct security checks at least every 30 minutes; logs and Zebra Scanners used for recording.
• Conduct counts, showers and cell searches/shake downs.
• Prepare and submit written reports of all events.
• Maintain surveillance and search for contraband.
• Ensure cleanliness and sanitation standards are upheld at all times.
• Ensure protective gear is worn by staff on the wing.
• Escort inmates for structured activities.
• Any other duties as assigned by a supervisor.
