Job summary

Southern Company seeks an Infrastructure Solutions Architect to lead enterprise platform technologies, including IBM Maximo MAS and OpenShift, shaping architecture standards and modernization roadmaps.

You will drive environment strategy, resiliency, automation, and observability, coordinating with platform teams, cybersecurity, vendors, and project managers to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in supporting enterprise application platforms, infrastructure architecture, platform architecture, or senior technical leadership roles.
• 6+ years of supporting highly available applications in a 24/7 production setting, including monitoring and troubleshooting.
• Experience with IBM Maximo MAS and OpenShift; Oracle/Exadata; Linux/Windows enterprise servers.
• Familiarity with Jira, Remedy, Change Management, and Agile ways of working.

Responsibilities

• Partner with one peer Infrastructure Solution Architect and a team of Infrastructure Analysts.
• AI & Knowledge Engineering: Evaluate emerging AI-enabled capabilities to automate platform administration, diagnostics, and operational processes.
• Platform Architecture, Strategy, and Governance: Establish enterprise architecture standards, design patterns, roadmaps, environment strategies, and reviews for OpenShift MAS modernization.
• Platform Lifecycle Management: Lead upgrades, version management, DR exercises, and vendor compatibility planning.
• Operational Excellence: Lead production issue resolution, outage coordination, and drive monitoring improvements.
• Vendor & Internal Consultation: Build partnerships across technical disciplines to support vendors, internal teams, and PMs.

Job Description

An Infrastructure Solutions Architect within the Maximo Center of Excellence (COE) providestechnical leadership and strategic direction for enterprise platform technologies supporting IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS), OpenShift, Oracle,and related services.

This roleis responsible fordefining platform architecture, technology standards, modernization roadmaps, environment strategy, resiliency patterns, and operational designprinciples that ensure scalable, secure, supportable, and resilient enterprise services.

Working closely with the Platform Support Supervisor,fellow architects,development teams, infrastructure organizations, cybersecurity teams, and strategic vendors, the architect drives long-term platform evolution while enabling operational excellence through automation, observability, documentation, and modern infrastructure practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with one peer Infrastructure Solution Architect and a team of Infrastructure Analysts
• AI & Knowledge Engineering: Evaluate emerging AI-enabled capabilities and identify opportunities to automate platform administration, diagnostics, and operational processes.
• Platform Architecture, Strategy, and Governance: Establish enterprise architecture standards and design patterns, develop technical roadmaps, define environment strategies, and lead architectural reviews as the Maximo COE moves from Maximo 7.6 to a containerized OpenShift platform under IBM MAS 9.x.
• Platform Lifecycle Management: Lead infrastructure planning and execution for platform upgrades, version management, and vendor compatibility. Plan and execute Disaster Recovery exercises to ensure strategies support business continuity requirements.
• Operational Excellence: Provide senior-level technical leadership for major production support issues, facilitate platform outage coordination, and drive proactive monitoring and service reliability improvements.
• Vendor & Internal Consultation: Build strong partnerships across multiple technical disciplines to serve as a senior technical counterpart to vendors, internal support organizations, and project managers.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in supporting enterprise application platforms, infrastructure architecture, platform architecture, or senior technical leadership roles
• Minimum of 6 years of supporting highly available applications in a 24/7 production setting, including application and system monitoring and troubleshooting
• Experience with IBM Maximo(Maximo 7.x and MAS 9.x)
• Experience with Red Hat OpenShift and containerized application platforms
• Experience with Oracle databases and Exadata environments
• Experience with Linux and Windows enterprise server platforms
• Experience with data center migrations, cloud transitions, and infrastructure modernization programs
• Experience supporting cybersecurity remediation and audit activities
• Familiarity with Jira, Remedy, Change Management, and Agile ways of working

Preferred Qualifications

• IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS) and/or Red Hat OpenShift professional certifications
• Third party MAS add-ons: EZMaxMobile (Naviam), CiM Visual Planner, TRM Rules Manager, MaxLS
• Exposure to AI-enabled technologies
• Experience incorporating AI into day-to-day activities
