Job summary

Aura Astronomy seeks a Deputy Associate Director for the DKIST on Maui. You will oversee day-to-day telescope operations and lead science and operations teams to ensure high performance and collaboration across functions.

The role requires a PhD in physics or astronomy, 10+ years of leadership in observatory environments, and strong communication skills. Travel within and beyond Hawaii may be required.

Qualifications

• PhD in physics, astronomy, or closely related field required.
• Leadership experience managing operations and instrument programs for scientific facilities.
• Experience with budgets and cost accounting.
• Excellent written and oral English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day Maui operations of DKIST Observatory.
• Lead science and operations teams toward operational excellence.
• Coordinate with NSO-wide support services and AURA administrative teams.
• Represent DKIST and communicate with stakeholders at meetings and reviews.
