Job summary

The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) is hiring a DKIST Instrumentation Manager to lead upgrades and new instrumentation for the world’s largest solar telescope. Located at the NSO headquarters in Boulder, CO, you will supervise engineers and technicians, manage budgets and schedules, and align efforts with the Program Scientist for Instrumentation.

You will also work with the Instrumentation Operations Manager on summit developments and maintain compliance.

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering, physics, astronomy or related field.
  • 10+ years leading complex science projects with budget/schedule/risk.
  • Experience coordinating technical procurements and managing teams.
  • Familiarity with CMMS and instrumentation maintenance planning.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineers and technicians to upgrade current DKIST instruments.
  • Collaborate with the DKIST Instrumentation Program Scientist to set priorities.
  • Coordinate with the Instrumentation Operations Manager on summit developments.
  • Develop instrument development plans and manage vendor contracts.
  • Maintain project documentation and report progress to DKIST management.
  • Ensure safety, compliance, and risk management across projects.
