Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is seeking an experienced shipping/receiving clerk to perform a mix of manual and clerical duties. Responsibilities include handling incoming materials, verifying counts and weights, and preparing bills of lading, crates and special shipments.

You will work in a fast-paced production environment, using forklifts and computers to maintain data while ensuring accuracy and compliance with shipping standards.

Qualifications

• High School/GED with 5 years of additional education and/or experience.
• Experience with the MARS system and basic knowledge of raw materials such as steel.

Responsibilities

• Receives incoming materials and prepares them for shipment.
• Verifies quantity, weight and conformance of materials; prepares shipment records and bills of lading.
• Lays out, fabricates and assembles nonstandard shipping crates and boxes; prepares parts for special shipment.

The Role

Performs a combination of manual and clerical shipping and/or receiving duties which may require the use of hand trucks, forklifts, and other devices, as well as computers to maintain data. Receives incoming materials or prepares materials for shipment. Verifies quantity, weight, and conformance of materials; prepares records of materials shipped and bills of lading; routes materials to destinations. May lay out, fabricate, and assemble nonstandard shipping crates and boxes, and prepare parts and tooling for special shipment.

Must Have

• High School/GED and 5 years of additional education and/or experience

Nice to Have

• Work experience using the Company's Material Acquisition Requirements System (MARS) as well as a knowledge of raw materials such as steel, shapes, plates, etc. and other related equipment. Proficiency in other business information systems.
