Job summary

Carpenter Technology Corporation is seeking a Combustion Technician to support electrical, instrumentation, and combustion systems for industrial furnaces. You will troubleshoot, calibrate, and survey furnace performance in a lean manufacturing environment, focusing on safety and reliability.

Requires a high school diploma or GED and an AS degree in electrical or manufacturing controls, plus at least two years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • AS degree in Electrical or Manufacturing Controls preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years electrical/instrumentation experience in industrial settings.
  • Familiarity with PLCs from Allen-Bradley or Siemens is a plus.
  • Ability to read control logic, P&IDs, and instrument loops.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, calibrate, and survey furnace systems for safety and performance.
  • Maintain PLCs, HMIs, controls, and interlocks in furnace systems.
  • Fabricate and calibrate thermocouple test stands for surveys.
  • Support quality assurance, maintenance, and lean production goals.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.

Job description

The Combustion Technician provides all electrical, instrumentation, and combustion system support for maintenance, operation, quality assurance and control of industrial furnaces. Support includes troubleshooting, inspections, calibrations, adjustments, temperature and accuracy surveys of the furnaces; focusing on safe, reliable, and cost-effective production in a lean manufacturing environment. Conducts furnace temperature uniformity surveys and system accuracy tests. Fabricate and maintain thermocouple test and calibration stands necessary for surveys. (Basic welding skills are a plus.) Maintains furnace related electrical systems including PLCs, HMI, controls, interlocks, as well as furnace combustion systems. Maintains accurate test data to support product qualification and industry certification. Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

High School Diploma or GED.

Associate (AS) degree in Electrical, Manufacturing Controls (PLCs) or an equivalent number of years of education and relevant maintenance experience.

Minimum of 2 years relevant electrical and/or instrumentation experience in an industrial manufacturing environment. Familiarity with Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens PLCs is a plus. Demonstrated ability to read and understand control logic, flow diagrams, instrument loops and P&lDs. Prior burner management system maintenance is a plus.
