JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE: The High School Math teacher works in classrooms with students of all grades. You will impart the required mathematics curricula to your students, including helping them prepare for standardized tests and college entrance exams.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Teaching students arithmetic and problem-solving skills.
- Respecting the uniqueness of each individual learner.
- Meeting the individual needs of all students to facilitate growth and development.
- Conveying information to students through written and verbal communication.
- Encouraging student ownership of behavior.
- Following the Ferguson-Florissant School District math curriculum and resources to create lesson plans and activities that include hands-on and written work.
- Providing direct instruction that fosters students' interest in math and supports increased engagement.
- Possessing credentials in (or willingness to obtain) IB, AP, and/or Dual Credit mathematics courses.
- Conducting Project-Based Learning and real-world math investigations during classes.
- Training or willingness to be trained in STEM, PBL, PLTW, and other supplemental credentials.
- Communicating regularly with parents, advisors, and students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A valid Missouri professional teaching certificate in the relevant grade level and subject area.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with emphasis in an educational subject area.
- Ability to apply instructional strategies to develop strong academic vocabulary in algebra concepts.
- Experience teaching algebra.
- Understanding and ability to implement instructional strategies on differentiation.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Planning, developing, and executing lessons aligned with the curriculum and state standards.
- Adapting mathematics instruction for individual, small group, and remedial settings to meet student needs.
- Evaluating students' academic and social growth.
- Assessing student progress and ability to meet course standards in math skills and knowledge.
- Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior.
- Developing lesson plans and teaching outlines.
- Employing various teaching methodologies, including demonstrations, discussions, and lectures.
- Utilizing educational tools such as materials, books, and other aids.
- Meeting state high school standards for Math End of Course Exams.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
