Position Title: Elementary Classroom Teacher (Mathematics/Science-STEM) NJ
Summary: Under the general supervision of the School Director, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes, addressing specific educational needs of individual students, and creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment. Provide feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required. (Masters preferred)
- New Jersey Certification (CE, CEAS) with subject matter specialization: Science or Teacher of Science
- Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
- Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of the use of various technological software and equipment for tasks such as, but not limited to, word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual presentations, and telecommunications.
- Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school-related matters.
- Knowledge of child growth and development, individual differences in ability, personality and interests, and learning/motivational techniques.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of grade specific school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work; parents, students, and faculty.
Prior to employment, the following must be addressed:
- Complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person’s offense.
- Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.2.
- Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.3.
- Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school director finds appropriate and acceptable.
Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Develop and administer school elementary mathematics and science/STEM curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
- Maintain anecdotal notes for students and collaborate with administration regarding issues & concerns.
- Maintain familiarity with district and New Jersey State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
- Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Maintain open communication with parents via Class Dojo, phone calls, emails, and parent-teacher conferences.
- Ensure that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Coordinate with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment and maintain inventory records.
- Provide struggling students with additional after school support within contracted times.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the School Director and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
Equipment: Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone. Familiar with robotics tools, and necessary computer software and platforms to teach programming, physical computing, and engineering design.
Travel Requirements: Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
