Job summary

Mohawk Valley Community College is seeking a part-time Mathematics Tutor to support students in the Learning Commons. The tutor will assist with topics from Basic Algebra to Calculus, promoting confidence and academic growth through holistic guidance and active-learning strategies.

The role requires an Associate's degree or 60 college credits in Mathematics (Bachelor’s preferred), strong communication, and computer skills.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or 60+ college credits in Mathematics or related field.
• Competence in Calculus and related math topics.
• Effective verbal communication skills.
• Fluency in the subject matter relevant to students’ needs.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Tutor students in a wide range of math courses.
• Use probing questions and guided inquiry to help students discover concepts.
• Engage students in active learning and discuss material to close gaps.
• Help students develop effective study strategies and note-taking.
• Maintain accurate records and monitor sign-in stations.
• Refer students to instructors and counseling/advisement as appropriate.
