Job description

Math Teacher job at Sidwell Friends School. Washington DC.

Sidwell Friends School, a co‑educational Quaker day school in Washington, DC, seeks a full‑time 7th‑8th grade Mathematics teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The position will begin August, 2025.

The 7/8 Math teacher will be responsible for teaching some combination of math courses that may include, in any given year: a 7th grade math course (pre‑algebra); an 8th grade Algebra I course; and a highly rigorous Algebra I course for 8th graders. Evidence of both supporting and challenging Middle School students in their mathematical thinking is essential, as is a commitment to helping them not only use but understand the reason that different mathematical processes work. An ability to teach students how to talk and write about math, in addition to completing problems correctly, is also important. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to inspire and support students and will show a willingness to work collaboratively and thrive in an environment committed to academic excellence. An appreciation for young adolescents and a sense of humor are also essential.

Other duties include advising a group of 7th and 8th grade students; writing student reports; effective communication and collaboration with students, colleagues, and families; attendance at meetings; and collaboration with Math colleagues in the Middle School and other divisions.

Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) and 3‑5 years of math teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level. Teaching positions at Sidwell Friends School are campus‑based; therefore, this position requires teaching in person.

  • Salary Range $62,096-$136,496 Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
