Job Description
Position: Teacher
Reports To: School Principal
Salary Grade: State Salary Schedule plus local supplement
Nature of Work: Provides direct instruction to students, may work one‑on‑one with special‑needs students as required. Tasks include teaching, lesson planning, classroom management, and support of school policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teaches district‑approved curriculum.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes at specified locations and times.
- Plans a program of study employing a variety of instructional techniques and media that meets students’ individual needs.
- Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to maturity and interests.
- Protects students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assists administration in implementing policies and rules.
- Encourages students to maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guides learning toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
- Assists in diagnosing learning disabilities with district specialists.
- Evaluates academic and social growth, keeps records, and prepares progress reports.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
- Provides availability to students and parents outside instructional day.
Qualifications and Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must satisfy the following.
Communication Skills
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Compose and write routine reports.
- Present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, and the public.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Language Skills
- Read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
- Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Mathematical Skills
- Work with probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry.
- Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
- Solve practical problems and handle situations with limited standardization.
- Interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
- Basic computer operation and software familiarity.
- Learn operations required for student information management and classroom technology integration.
Work Environment
Moderate to loud noise level. Continuous public and staff interaction.
Physical Demands
Regular sitting, walking, and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. Visual requirements: close vision, color vision, depth perception.
Required Education and Experience
- Four‑year college degree.
- Major or 24 semester hours in subject area to be taught.
- Passing score on Praxis II Test in subject area to be taught.
- Valid N.C. teaching license or ability to obtain one.
Performance Evaluation
Evaluated regularly by supervisor per Board Policy.
