Job summary

21st Century Charter School at Gary is seeking a Math Specialist to provide targeted math intervention for students below grade level. The role focuses on strengthening foundational skills, confidence, and math fluency through individualized and small-group instruction.

The Math Specialist will collaborate with classroom teachers, use assessments to identify gaps, and develop clear intervention goals. This is a 10-month, full-time position reporting to the Executive Director.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Active teaching license.
• At least 3 years improving academic outcomes.
• Strong knowledge of mathematics and instructional practices.

We are seeking a Math Specialist to support students who are performing below grade level in mathematics. This person will provide targeted instruction to strengthen foundational skills, build confidence, and help students develop the competence needed to succeed in grade-level math.

This position is dedicated to math intervention and student progress.

The Math Specialist will not be assigned lunch duty, bus duty, or other noninstructional supervision duties.

Reports to/Term:

Executive Director

Full-time 10-month position

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide individualized and small-group instruction based on students’ math needs.
• Identify skill gaps using assessments, classroom data, and teacher input.
• Develop and implement targeted intervention plans with clear learning goals.
• Use effective teaching strategies to strengthen mathematical understanding, problem-solving, and fluency.
• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction to support mastery.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to connect intervention with grade-level learning.
• Maintain records of student progress and communicate growth and ongoing needs to teachers and families.
• Create a supportive learning environment that encourages persistence and confidence in mathematics.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
• Teaching license.
• Previous teaching experience and 3 years of proven experience improving academic outcomes
• Strong knowledge of mathematics and effective instructional practices.
• Ability to support students with varied learning needs.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience providing math intervention or working with students who are performing below grade level.
• Experience using assessment data to plan instruction and measure student growth.
