Located in the Cambridgeport neighborhood, Amigos is a comprehensive Junior K–8 school. Amigos welcomes students from diverse communities and cultural backgrounds. Bringing culturally diverse students together in situations where each has equal status fosters motivation and promotes cohesion, community building, and cooperation.

The Amigos School seeks to hire a Bilingual (Spanish/English) Math Interventionist to join our diverse, committed, and passionate community. This individual will be responsible for providing math support to identified students within a multi‑tiered system of support. The successful Two‑Way candidate will have experience planning, implementing, and adapting curriculum based on the Massachusetts State Frameworks and the Common Core. The candidate will set high expectations for all students and utilize scaffolding and differentiation to support students in accessing all language and content material. They will also have experience as a classroom teacher working with students in math.

Students in Two‑Way schools receive instruction in Spanish and English. The Math Interventionist will provide intervention in Spanish and English. They will work collaboratively with colleagues to plan and implement an academically and linguistically engaging curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and socially/culturally responsive to the needs of the dual‑language student population.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and assess students and work in collaboration with the school’s math team.
• Match student needs with appropriate interventions and monitor progress.
• Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs and improve instructional practices throughout the school.
• Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade‑level activities, school‑wide, and district functions.
• Partner with families to include them in each student’s learning and development, guided by a profound understanding of the importance of this connection.
• Participate in school leadership team meetings.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of experience in a two‑way bilingual setting with language minority students acquiring a second language.
• High levels of native language proficiency in Spanish and English, including listening, speaking, reading, grammar, and writing.
• Awareness of the developmental needs of young learners and the strategies to meet those needs through the curriculum.
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Education and/or Mathematics strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with and appreciation of PK‑6 students and their needs, issues, and interests.
• Previous and successful experience working in a multicultural environment that includes students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, alongside the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with diverse staff and student body.
• A commitment to equity in education and a belief that all students are capable of excelling in math.
• Massachusetts Teacher Certification/Licensure in Mathematics or Elementary Education.
