Position Overview
We are seeking a Materials Specialist - Inventory Control Planner to ensure the right materials and components are available at the right time to support manufacturing operations. This role combines materials planning, inventory control, purchasing coordination, and supplier management, with day-to-day leadership across Purchasing, Shipping, and Receiving.
The Materials Specialist - Inventory Control Planner will manage material requirements for steel, aluminum, rubber, plastics, engineered components, and other production materials, while working closely with Production, Scheduling, Quality, and other departments to maintain material flow, inventory accuracy, and on-time delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direction and day-to-day leadership to Purchasing, Shipping, and Receiving teams.
- Plan and coordinate requirements for raw materials and components, including steel, aluminum, rubber, plastics, and other engineered materials, as well as semi-finished goods, finished goods, and outside services.
- Monitor purchasing activity, material availability, supplier performance, and delivery schedules.
- Maintain accurate inventory levels and appropriate stock levels to support production while improving inventory turnover.
- Follow up with suppliers regarding purchase orders, material shortages, delivery schedules, quality issues, and other supply concerns.
- Develop, implement, and improve processes related to purchasing, shipping, receiving, transportation, and inventory control.
- Analyze material usage, movement, quality, availability, and inventory requirements to identify potential shortages and opportunities for improvement.
- Work closely with Production, Scheduling, Quality, and other internal departments to ensure materials are available to meet production requirements.
- Monitor and report key materials KPIs, including On-Time Delivery (OTD), Stock in Days, and Year-End Inventory.
- Support production schedules and ensure material availability aligns with customer and project requirements.
- Serve as a backup to the Scheduling Team, helping maintain continuity of production information and shop orders.
- Identify and resolve material shortages, inventory discrepancies, and supply issues that could impact production.
- Follow all applicable environmental, health, and safety requirements and participate in risk assessments.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in Materials, Inventory Control Planning, Procurement, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Production Planning, or Production Control within a manufacturing environment.
- Previous supervisory, lead, or team leadership experience.
- Experience working with MRP/ERP systems; Infor XA strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of inventory control, material planning, purchasing, and supplier management.
- Experience working with manufacturing materials such as steel, aluminum, rubber, plastics, engineered components, or similar production materials preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to analyze and manage material-related data.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

$75,000 - $85,000 + bonus, 401(k), PTO, healthcare, and comprehensive benefits package.
