Job summary

Eurofins Scientific is seeking an Associate Scientist to provide laboratory support in synthesizing salt forms and polymorphs of drug candidates, with emphasis on solid form and particle characterization. The role is based in Groton, CT, and involves collaboration with Medicinal Chemistry, Formulation, and Biopharmaceutics teams to guide solid form selection for clinical studies.

Qualifications

• BS with 2+ years of experience or MS/PhD in pharmaceutical science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field.
• Experience in solid state characterization techniques (such as X-ray powder diffraction, DSC, TGA, spectroscopy).
• Experience and understanding of infrared spectroscopy (FTIR, NIR, FT-Raman) and/or SSNMR is an advantage.
• Experience with solving Materials Science problems, e.g., solid state chemistry and particle characterization using experimental approaches and team collaboration.
• Understanding of physical, analytical, and organic chemistry.
• Good organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
• Some programming experience is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct solid state characterization (e.g., X‑ray powder diffraction, thermal analysis, moisture sorption, microscopy, spectroscopy) of small molecules of pharmaceutical relevance.
• Support multidisciplinary project teams and collaborate to define and implement crystallization, polymorph, salt, and co‑crystal screening activities.
• Support API particle characterization activities according to project timelines.
• Conduct physical and surface characterization of powders of pharmaceutical relevance (particle size, shape; surface energy, roughness).
• Collaborate to define and implement screening strategies for solid form selection for clinical studies.
