Job summary

Formlabs is seeking a Materials Scientist for Photopolymer Development in Boston, MA. You will design and optimize photopolymer formulations for additive manufacturing, and drive the end-to-end transition from lab concept to commercial launch on the Form 4 platform.

Ideal candidates hold a BS, MS, or PhD in a related field and bring hands-on lab experience with thermoset polymers. Expect rigorous data analysis, autonomous project ownership, and opportunities to contribute to IP and publications.

Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or PhD in polymer science, chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science or related.
  • Results-oriented and motivated by delivering products in a fast-paced R&D environment.
  • Experience developing thermoset materials including epoxies, urethanes, or acrylates.
  • Enjoys hands-on lab work conducting experiments and analyzing large data sets to drive decisions.
  • Able to work autonomously and push projects forward independently.
  • Track record of success including publication, IP generation, or product commercialization.
  • Good documentation and ability to create SOPs and clear internal reports.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize complex photopolymer formulations to push additive manufacturing.
  • Lead end-to-end transition of new materials from lab scale concept to commercial launch, supporting tech transfer and scale-up.
  • Establish structure–property–processing relationships through rigorous experimentation and characterization.
  • Learn the 3D printing process and hardware, using that knowledge to inform formulation decisions and hardware directions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product management, hardware, and software teams to meet customer needs on the Form 4 platform.
