Job summary

WM is seeking a responsible supervisor to manage day-to-day operations at the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Milwaukee. You will oversee operations from gatehouse to loading, drive cost reductions, and shorten truck turnaround times while ensuring compliance with WM’s safety standards.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree (industrial engineering or related), a high school diploma or GED, and 4 years of relevant experience with an additional 3 years of related work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering or similar field; in lieu of degree considered
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 4 years of relevant work experience
  • 3 years of additional relevant work experience beyond education requirements

Responsibilities

  • Ensure smooth operation of site including gatehouse, sorting and loading
  • Minimize handling and operational costs
  • Reduce truck turnaround time at the site
  • Propose operational improvements regularly
  • Act as liaison for community relationships as needed
  • Comply with WM's Mission to Zero standards and regulations
  • Submit budget information and analyze data vs year-to-date and prior year
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented environment through employee development
  • Maintain cleanliness and maintenance of the MRF facilities
  • Oversee personnel needs including hiring, coaching, training, and performance evaluations
  • Attend and contribute to periodic safety meetings
  • Provide training and presentations in a positive, professional manner
  • Submit required reports timely

Education

Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Industrial Engineering, or similar area of study
High School Diploma or GED (accredited)

Job description

Ensures the highest standards of environmental safety and operational excellence by effectively managing the day-to-day operations of the assigned Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and maintains cost management within the A-1 MRF.

  • Ensures smooth operation of site, including gatehouse, sorting, loading.
  • Minimizes handling and operational costs.
  • Continually works to reduce turnaround time for trucks in and out of site.
  • Regularly proposes means of operational improvement.
  • Acts as a liaison, where necessary, for community relationships.
  • Complies with and ensures adherence to WM’s Mission to Zero standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
  • Submits reasonable budget information and analyzes data versus year-to-date data and prior year budget.
  • Assists in creating a positive team-oriented environment through employee development and motivation.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of the physical property of the MRF through inspections and preventive maintenance programs with supervisors/employees.
  • Oversees personnel needs of the MRF including selecting, coaching, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Conducts and/or attends and contributes to periodic safety meetings.
  • Provides training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner.
  • Updates and submits required reports in a timely manner.
