Position: Materials Quality Engineer I/II - Fort Worth District Laboratory

TxDOT's Fort Worth District is hiring a Materials Quality Engineer based in Fort Worth, TX. We provide training, tools, uniforms, and opportunities for advancement. Our benefits include medical insurance with no deductible, paid time off, holidays, and retirement plans.

Salary Grade:

Materials Quality Engineer I: (B24) $5,425.33 - $8,886.16/month

Materials Quality Engineer II: (B25) $5,797.66 - $9,508.25/month

This posting is for one position at either level, depending on qualifications and business needs.

Additional Details:

  • Minimum Salary: $65,104.00
  • Maximum Salary: $114,099.00
  • Pay Basis: Yearly
  • FLSA Status: Exempt
  • Travel: Yes, 25%
  • Shift: Day
  • Location Flexibility: Onsite

Responsibilities vary by level:

Materials Quality Engineer II:

Performs complex transportation engineering tasks, ensuring compliance with laws and standards, working independently with supervision for unusual issues.

Materials Quality Engineer I:
  • Monitors material testing for compliance
  • Develops/reviews engineering documents and reports
  • Investigates material failures
  • Reviews Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E)
Additional duties for Level II include on-site reviews, technical support, and potentially leading tasks.
Minimum Qualifications:

Engineer I: Bachelor's in engineering or related science, 4 years engineering experience, graduate education may substitute.

Engineer II: Bachelor's in engineering or related science, 5 years engineering experience, graduate education may substitute.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Valid driver's license
  • Professional Engineer license (in Texas or eligible to obtain)
  • Additional certifications if performing specialized inspections
Required Skills:
  • Knowledge of construction policies, materials, testing methods
  • Ability to apply engineering principles
  • Leadership and computer skills
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Environmental and safety gear requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work outdoors, and pass physical and drug tests
  • Work may include weekends, holidays, and non-standard hours
