Job summary

Vulcan Elements is hiring a Materials and Process Engineer with a metals focus to build and validate computational models across key process steps. The role begins in Durham, NC and will move to Benson, NC after new facility completion.

You will develop simulations of thermal, electromagnetic, and mechanical behavior and translate results into actionable manufacturing guidance for process optimization.

Qualifications

• Must have strong fundamentals in computational mechanics and CFD.
• Experience with ANSYS or COMSOL for process modeling.
• Proficiency in Python or MATLAB for automation and post-processing.
• Ability to work independently and communicate results clearly to cross-functional teams.
• U.S. Person due to export-controlled information or facilities.

Responsibilities

• Model thermal conditions during manufacturing processes (sintering, heat treatment, casting).
• Create models for CFD, mechanical behavior, heat transfer, and electromagnetics.
• Use models with process data to drive optimization.
• Build and refine simulations using ANSYS/COMSOL or equivalent software.
• Collaborate with process, materials, and data engineers to integrate outputs.
• Design studies to evaluate sensitivities and guide experiments.
• Document modeling assumptions, boundary conditions, validation results, and recommendations.
• Support scripting for pre/post-processing of simulation data.
