Job summary

Vulcan Elements is expanding a 1 million square foot manufacturing facility and seeks a Staff Mechanical Engineer to lead the in‑house design and development of specialized production equipment for our magnet manufacturing process.

You will translate complex pilot-line processes into fully realized machinery, with deep mechanical and electrical design responsibilities and on‑site collaboration with fabrication shops. Expect <10% travel for on‑site reviews and support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 7+ years of experience.
• Expert-level CAD design for complex equipment assemblies.
• Experience leading both mechanical and electrical design and working with external fabrication shops.
• Experience performing stress, thermal, and CFD simulations.
• US Person due to export-controlled information or facilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the ground-up mechanical and electrical design of custom, proprietary manufacturing equipment for magnet production.
• Collaborate with local fabrication shops to source components, manage lead times, and ensure build quality.
• Provide on-the-floor support during assembly, wiring, and initial testing; troubleshoot fitment or functional issues.
• Conduct stress, thermal, and CFD analyses to validate designs for harsh industrial environments.
• Work with cross-functional teams to incorporate DFM, safety, environmental, and ergonomic standards.
