Job summary

Vulcan Elements seeks a Materials and Process Engineer with a metals focus to build and validate computational models of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, electromagnetic behavior, and mechanical response to drive process optimization. The role begins in Durham, NC and will move to Benson, NC upon new facility completion.

You will use ANSYS, COMSOL, and scripting in Python or MATLAB to create simulations, collaborate with process, materials, and data engineers, and document modeling assumptions and

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials Science, or related field.
  • Experience building/validating process models with ANSYS/COMSOL or equivalent.
  • Strong CFD, heat transfer, and mechanical stress/strain knowledge.
  • Proficient in Python or MATLAB for simulation data handling.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate results clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Model thermal conditions during sintering, heat treatment, and casting.
  • Create models for CFD, mechanical behavior, heat transfer, and electromagnetics.
  • Use models with process data to improve processes.
  • Build simulations using ANSYS, COMSOL, or equivalent platforms.
  • Collaborate with process, materials, and data engineers.
  • Design studies to evaluate sensitivities and guide experiments.
  • Document modeling assumptions, boundaries, validation, and results.
  • Support scripting for pre/post-processing of simulation data.
