Job summary

Briggs & Stratton is seeking a Manager of Materials in the United States. You will lead a team to optimize forecast, demand planning, and supply plans, ensuring service parts and products are available to meet production needs.

Responsibilities include monitoring forecasts, defining performance metrics, and coordinating with corporate functions on supply chain directives. Travel up to 10% is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management or a related field.
  • Seven years of experience in supply chain management.
  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing, distribution, inventory, and quality procedures and management programs and systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of integrated supply chain management including demand planning, forecasting and procurement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team to optimize forecast, demand planning and create supply plans for availability of service parts and products.
  • Monitor forecasts and demand to identify changes and their impact on supply chain activities.
  • Define performance metrics for measurement of supply chain factors, inventory accuracy, and shipping/receiving compliance.
  • Analyze inventories to increase inventory turns, manage fill rates, and determine ETA.
  • Manage production scheduling to meet the sales forecast.
  • Ensure component and product inventory is stored and managed properly.
  • Coordinate with Corporate functions on roll-out of Supply Chain directives and synergies with Briggs & Stratton entities.
  • Manage tactical purchasing, material requirements planning, inventory control, Kanban, VMI, logistics, warehousing, shipping/receiving.
  • Participate in engineering changes, product line extensions, or new launches to ensure timely transitions in material/production flow.
  • Perform managerial duties: hiring, coaching, budget, etc.

As the Manager of Materials your goal is to manage the flow of materials into, through, and out of the facility. You will collaborate with managers and teams throughout the facility to determine inventory and purchasing needs as they relate to production demand and forecasts and mitigate discrepancies and disruptions as they arise.

You will do this by:

Leading a team to optimize forecast, demand planning and creates supply plans that ensure availability of service parts and products

Monitoring forecasts and demand to identify changes or to determine their effect on supply chain activities

Defining performance metrics for measurement, comparison, or evaluation of supply chain factors, inventory accuracy, and shipping/receiving compliance

Analyzing inventories to determine how to increase inventory turns, manage fill rates, determine estimated time of arrival, reduce waste, or optimize customer service

Managing production scheduling to meet the sales forecast

Ensuring component and product inventory is stored and managed in an appropriate manner

Partnering with Corporate functions to ensure proper roll out and adherence to corporate Supply Chain directives along with maximizing synergies with other Briggs & Stratton entities

Managing activities related to tactical purchasing, material requirements planning, inventory control, Kanban, vendor managed inventory, logistics, warehousing, shipping and receiving

Participating in the coordination of engineering changes, product line extensions, or new product launches to ensure orderly and timely transitions in material or production flow

Performing a full range of managerial responsibilities which may include but not be limited to: interviewing, hiring, coaching and developing employees; planning, assigning and directing work; EEO/AA; performance management; department budget

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management or a related field.

Sseven years of experience in supply chain management.

Thorough knowledge of manufacturing, distribution, inventory, and quality procedures and management programs and systems

Comprehensive understanding of integrated supply chain management including demand planning, forecasting and procurement

Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse groups of people inside and outside of the corporation

Excellent analytical skills and the ability to exercise judgment and make critical decisions

Proficient computer skills including familiarity with enterprise resource planning and business intelligence/analytics systems, Google, and MS Office applications

Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with SAP or other ERP systems is a plus.

Experience in a high volume manufacturing environment is a plus.

APICS Certified in Production and Inventory management (CPIM)

Travel Required:

Travel: 5-10%
