Job summary

Briggs & Stratton, headquartered in Milwaukee, WI, seeks a Manager of Production Control to lead the packaging department and oversee ~50 employees. You will manage production schedules, staffing, and cross-functional collaboration with purchasing, engineering, and sales using SAP and lean practices.

Lead Kaizen events, implement improvements, and coordinate new model introductions while managing inventory and obsolescence to meet on-time shipping goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification (or equivalent Kaizen/continuous improvement leadership).
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership in a high-volume packaging or manufacturing setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing and inventory control systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and establish long-range manufacturing goals and objectives.
  • Supervise staff to ensure orders are processed efficiently and inventory requirements are met.
  • Oversee schedule planning, machine loading, material requirements, and procurement for max labor/equipment utilization.
  • Maintain relationships between manufacturing, purchasing, engineering and sales for schedules and order status.
  • Prepare production analysis charts, load forecasts, labor forecasts and project completion reports.
  • Establish production schedules and take action to prevent delays, expedite rush orders.
  • Develop production control system enhancements and manage obsolete inventory.
  • Coordinate new model introductions and manage obsolescence of inventory.
  • Interviewing, hiring, coaching and developing employees; planning and directing work; diversity & EEO practices; performance management; budget responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

As the Manager of Production Control, your role will be to lead the packaging department and oversee approximately 50 employees, focusing on team growth and operational scaling. Key responsibilities include managing direct reports including production supervisors and coordinators, navigating ERP systems with a preference for SAP, and implementing lean manufacturing expertise through transformational leadership and Kaizen events.

You will do this by:

  • Planning and establishing long-range manufacturing goals and objectives
  • Supervising staff to ensure that orders are processed efficiently and inventory requirements are met
  • Overseeing schedule planning, machine loading, material requirements, raw materials management and procurement to obtain maximum utilization of labor, tools and equipment
  • Maintaining relationship between manufacturing, purchasing, engineering and sales departments to keep them informed as to schedules, needs and order status
  • Preparing production analysis charts, job and machine load forecasts, labor forecasts and project completion reports
  • Establishing production schedules and take necessary action to eliminate delays and to ensure adherence to production and shipping schedules;expedites rush and special orders
  • Developing production control system enhancements and ensuring its effectiveness
  • Coordinating new model introductions and managing obsolete inventory

  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in a high-volume packaging or manufacturing setting
  • Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing and inventory control systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google software such as Sheets, Docs, Slides and Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP) software.
  • Advanced problem solving skills to respond to manufacturing process and system problems
  • Fluent in English and primary language used in area of responsibility and/or location
