Job summary

Shoshone Health is seeking a Materials Manager to oversee purchasing, inventory control, shipping/receiving, and budgeting to ensure supplies and equipment are available when needed for patient care. The role emphasizes accuracy, vendor communication, and efficient procurement processes.

You will lead inventory optimization, collaborate with departments, and support cost-effective purchasing while maintaining compliance and quality across hospital operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous healthcare or medical supply experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of hospital, medical, operational, and clerical supplies preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
  • Experience with purchasing, purchase orders, requisitions, shipping, or receiving preferred.
  • Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate purchasing and ensure timely acquisition of supplies and equipment.
  • Manage all hospital shipping and receiving activities.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and establish appropriate inventory levels.
  • Monitor par levels and deliver supplies to hospital departments.
  • Process and monitor material requisitions and purchase orders.
  • Maintain product information, catalogs, and resources needed by hospital departments.
  • Coordinate and complete hospital-wide product recalls.
  • Develop and maintain department policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors, hospital departments, leadership, and staff.
  • Identify opportunities to improve purchasing, inventory control, and supply availability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Materials Manager
Position Summary

The Materials Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the hospital’s purchasing and materials management functions. This position oversees purchasing, inventory management, shipping and receiving, supply distribution, requisitions, recalls, budgeting, and department personnel. The Materials Manager ensures supplies and equipment are available when needed while maintaining accurate inventory and responsible purchasing practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage the department’s annual budget.
  • Coordinate purchasing and ensure timely acquisition of supplies and equipment.
  • Manage all hospital shipping and receiving activities.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and establish appropriate inventory levels.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Ability to regularly lift and move supplies and equipment, including items weighing up to 75 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and climbing ladders.
  • Ability to spend extended periods on feet and to sit at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to push carts, stretchers, wheelchairs, and other equipment.
  • May be exposed to temperature extremes, noise, mechanical/electrical hazards, chemicals, hazardous materials, blood and bodily fluids, contaminated materials, and infectious diseases.
  • Must follow all applicable safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.
