Job summary

Job Title: Materials Manager - Structural Steel

Location: Dallas, TX

Salary: $85,000 - $95,000 + Benefits

Day to Day

As the Materials Manager, you'll play a key leadership role within a busy structural steel fabrication business, acting as the link between purchasing, production, detailing, receiving, and project management. This is a hybrid office and shop-floor position where no two days are the same.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Purchasing structural steel, hardware, and miscellaneous materials.


• Managing inventory levels and allocating materials across multiple active projects.


• Building and maintaining strong relationships with vendors and suppliers.


• Coordinating closely with Project Managers, Detailing, Production, and Receiving teams.


• Using Tekla PowerFab (or a similar ERP system) to manage purchasing, inventory, receiving, and production tracking.


• Combining material requirements across projects to maximise efficiency and reduce waste.


• Monitoring deliveries, resolving shortages, and ensuring materials are available to keep production on schedule.


• Spending time on the shop floor verifying materials, solving problems, and supporting operations.

We're looking for someone who has:

• Experience purchasing structural steel or construction materials.


• Strong knowledge of inventory management and materials planning.


• Experience using Tekla PowerFab or a similar ERP/MRP system (preferred).


• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.


• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across departments.


• A proactive approach to problem-solving and taking ownership of issues.


• Experience working closely with production, fabrication, or manufacturing teams.


• Knowledge of structural steel grades, purchasing strategies, and vendor management is highly desirable.
