Sullivan County Community Hospital seeks an experienced professional to supervise the Material Management program. You will oversee purchasing arrangements, contracts, and vendor stocking while coordinating with the hospital’s accounting procedures.

Ideal candidate has familiarity with hospital material management systems, and can lead staff, set departmental goals, and implement administration-directed projects.

Qualifications

  • Requires a college degree in a business-related major or equivalent experience.
  • 1-2 years’ experience with an appropriate degree, or 3-5 years in Hospital Material Management.
  • Understands the systems approach to material management concepts.
  • Ability to make decisions and follow up with appropriate parties.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while remaining tactful and courteous.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the Material Management program.
  • Researches and develops purchasing arrangements for commodities, pricing, contracts, and vendor stocking.
  • Coordinates patient chargeable items with hospital accounting procedures.
  • Keeps abreast of new technologies and hospital purchasing contracts.
  • Signs all purchase orders and contractual agreements for procurement of supplies.
  • Participates in hiring, reviewing and evaluating Material Management staff.
  • Establishes and implements departmental goals, policies and procedures.
  • Implements assignments and projects directed by Administration.

Experience/Skills
  • 1-2 years’ experience with an appropriate degree, or
  • 3-5 years’ experience in Hospital Material Management
  • Understands the systems approach to material management concepts

  • Manages contracts that frequently require tact and the ability to make or defer important decisions and meet demands
  • Practices professional verbal communication skills

ROUTINE RESPONSIBILITIES

Major Task
  • Supervises the Material Management program
  • Researches and develops purchasing arrangements for commodities, pricing, contracts, and vendor stocking
  • Researches and makes recommendations on new products
  • Coordinates patient chargeable items in accordance with the hospital’s accounting procedures
  • Keeps abreast of new technologies
  • Coordinates Capital Equipment
  • Keeps abreast of hospital purchasing contracts
  • Signs all purchase orders and contractual agreements for procurement of supplies
  • Keeps administration informed of problems and achievements
  • Participates in the hiring, reviewing and evaluating of Material Management staff
  • Establishes and implements departmental goals, policies and procedures
  • Keeps informed of current administrative policies and procedures, and ensures their implementation and adherence
  • Implements all other assignments and projects directed by Administration
Duties
  • Recommends new or alternate materials to the Product Committee and recommends designs that are of better quality, greater procurability, or lower cost
  • Works independent and reports activity or recommendations to the Chief Financial Officer
  • Recommends additions and deletions of inventory stock supplies
  • Accurately performs annual storeroom physical inventory
  • Monitors and initiates departmental physical inventories
  • Completes surveys, or reports involving department at the request of departments, supervisors, or administrators with attention to time constraints
  • Evaluates all requests for equipment and supplies and makes recommendations to supervisor
  • Coordinates the activities of the department with the hospital’s Disaster Plan
  • Accurately maintains records and documentation
  • Provides monthly department staff meetings, maintains meeting minutes and documents attendance
  • Develops, presents, and demonstrates an understanding of the on-going budget process
  • Prepares annual departmental budget
  • Keeps inventory quantities in line with hospital goals
  • Keeps salary expenses, including overtime, within budget limits
  • Keeps all other departmental operating expenses within budget limits
  • Keeps FTEs within budget limits
  • Submits all reports with attention to time constraints
  • Meets goals and objectives established on annual evaluation and\or as part of budgeting process
