Role Title: Materials Lead

Location: Leander, TX, On-site

Shift: 1st shift, Full-time

Role Summary

We are seeking a motivated Materials Lead to join our production team. The Materials Lead is responsible for the accurate and efficient movement, tracking, receiving, storage, and shipment of raw materials and finished goods in a yarn and fabric textile mill.

This role ensures smooth material flow across the facility, maintains inventory integrity, and supports production and customer delivery schedules through disciplined inventory control and logistics coordination. The Materials Lead will be responsible for building a high-performance team to scale with the rising demands of production.

Responsibilities

Material Flow & Movement

  • Coordinate and execute the internal movement of raw materials (fibers, yarns, fabrics, packaging) and inventory items between receiving, storage, production, and shipping areas.

  • Ensure timely and accurate transfer of materials to support production schedules while minimizing handling damage and downtime.

  • Maintain clear material identification, labeling, and traceability throughout the mill.

Raw Material Receiving

  • Receive incoming raw materials (cotton, synthetic fibers, yarns, packaging, etc.).

  • Verify quantities, quality, and documentation against purchase orders and packing lists.

  • Perform visual inspections and coordinate with Quality Assurance and Purchasing for non-conforming materials.

  • Accurately update inventory systems upon receipt and direct materials to appropriate storage locations.

Finished Goods Inventory

  • Manage finished yarn and fabric inventory, including put-away, location tracking, cycle counting, and stock rotation (FIFO as applicable).

  • Conduct regular physical inventory counts and reconcile variances with system records.

  • Monitor stock levels, report low-stock or excess situations, and support inventory accuracy goals.

  • Ensure proper storage conditions to protect yarn and fabric quality (humidity, cleanliness, handling practices).

Material Shipments

  • Prepare finished goods for shipment according to customer orders and shipping schedules.

  • Verify order accuracy (quantity, quality, packaging, labeling, documentation).

  • Coordinate loading, staging, and dispatch of outbound shipments (truck, container, etc.).

  • Generate and maintain shipping documents (packing lists, bills of lading, invoices, certificates of origin as required).

  • Track outbound shipments and resolve any delivery or documentation issues in coordination with Logistics and Customer Service.

Additional Duties

  • Maintain accurate records in the mills's ERP / inventory management system.

  • Follow all safety, quality, and 5S housekeeping standards in warehouse and material handling areas.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to material flow, inventory accuracy, and warehouse efficiency.

  • Assist with special projects, audits, cycle counts and inventory as needed.

  • Communicate effectively with Production, Purchasing, Quality, Planning, and Logistics teams.

  • Build and develop a team of Material Specialists as the production demands scale.

Basic Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or relevant technical training preferred.

  • 1-4 years of experience in warehouse, inventory control, materials handling, or logistics (textile, manufacturing, or related industry preferred).

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment and handle physical aspects of material handling (lifting, standing, walking).
