Job description

Align is looking for a Materials Lab Technician - Contractor for our San Jose, California location. You will be responsible for supporting the Materials Engineering team in new product development and existing product improvement. The ideal candidate should have a good understanding of working with chemicals and polymer materials, knowledge of polymer material characterization and processes, and be willing to work in a laboratory environment.

Role expectations

1. Conduct routine material testing and develop reports using established procedures.
2. Perform polymer processing as well as product testing.
3. Support testing and characterization tasks under supervision.
4. Collect data from instrumentation and measurements.
5. Write reports based on data collection.
6. Maintain a laboratory notebook.
7. Demonstrate good communication skills and quick learning capability.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor’s degree with 1-3 years of lab experience.
• Experience with polymer materials.
• Experience with characterization equipment (such as FTIR, universal testing, DMA, DSC, TGA, UV-Vis, melt flow index, and others).
• Knowledge and experience with plastic materials testing and processing.
• Understanding of good laboratory techniques and safety protocols.
• Good observational skills and ability to make independent decisions during experiments.
• Willingness to learn new techniques and follow directions.
