Job summary

Amazon is seeking a hands-on materials tester in Sumner, WA. The role focuses on conducting rigorous testing of packaging materials, maintaining lab equipment, and documenting results to drive material decisions.

You will work with engineers and scientists to design experiments, follow SOPs, and support continuous improvement in testing processes. This is a lab‑based, on‑site position offering growth in materials science and sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications

• 2+ years hardware development or hands-on engineering experience.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Paper Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Experience with packaging materials testing methods is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct hands-on materials testing using equipment such as tensile testers, burst testers, tear testers, rheometers, and other materials characterization tools.
• Execute test protocols following TAPPI, ASTM, ISO, ISTA standards and internal methods.
• Collaborate with Advanced Materials Engineers and scientists on experimental design and execution.
• Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment; ensure safety and organization.
• Prepare test specimens and document results clearly.
