Job summary

A.O. Smith Corp. in Ashland City, TN seeks a Materials Supervisor II to lead materials management, including planning, procurement, storage, control, and distribution of materials to meet company goals and customer needs.

This position reports to the director of manufacturing and supervises several related roles. You will oversee inventory accuracy, year-end counts, shipping and receiving, and work closely with purchasing to prevent shortages, drive just‑in‑time practices, and develop reporting

Qualifications

• Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees and management.
• Strong organizational and planning skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access).
• MBA is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Maintain optimum inventory levels for on-time deliveries while minimizing costs.
• Supervise year-end physical inventory and perpetual inventory accuracy.
• Direct write-offs of obsolescent and damaged inventory.
• Oversee production control planning and scheduling to meet forecasts.
• Maintain contact with customers regarding releases and deliveries.
• Coordinate with purchasing to schedule material deliveries and resolve shortages.
• Develop and maintain reports related to materials function.
• Manage shipping, receiving, and storage of parts and finished goods.
• Keep abreast of new supply sources to support JIT inventory practices.
• Ensure procedures are followed in all materials department functions.
• Motivate and develop subordinates.
• Other duties as assigned.
